History of the city of Sesimbra
You may be surprised to learn that Sesimbra is a city with a long history. It was founded in ancient times by the Romans and has since played an important role in the history of Portugal, being a strategic place on the coastal defense line. The medieval fortress rising on a hill above the city, offering spectacular views of the surrounding area, testifies to its former strategic position. His works on maritime navigation and cartography influenced the development of sailing and sea travel in the 16th century) and Bartolomeu Dias (Portuguese explorer and navigator.
