Amarante is a charming town in northern Portugal, picturesquely situated on the Tâmega River. It is known for its beautiful medieval bridge and its baroque churches, including the famous Church of São Gonçalo, which is a place of pilgrimage. Amarante is also famous for its delicious local sweets, such as “papos de anjo” and “toucinho do céu,” which are popular throughout the region.
