Vila Nova de Milfontes is a town located by the ocean, in Alentejo, at the mouth of the Mira River. The Alentejo region of Portugal is a hot land of gentle landscapes, undulating wheat fields, vast olive plantations and evergreen cork oaks and vineyards.
The Alentejo coastal strip is almost as long as in the Algarve, but tourists visit it much less often because the open ocean waters are a bit colder than on the Gulf of Cádiz, and in addition, strong winds blow here. Typical low-rise buildings, whitewashed walls of houses with blue and yellow edging are the hallmarks of the Alentejo region.
Vila Nova de Milfontes is located in the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina nature park. It is very peaceful and pleasant here. When I go on a trip to the west coast I like to make a stop in this town. Find out what to see in Vila Nova de Milfontes, where to eat and where to stay overnight.
