Monte Clérigo is a tiny place lost somewhere on the western coast of Algarve. Few summer houses on the hill, huge beach and vastness of the ocean. It’s hard to imagine a better place to relax and recharge your batteries. If you are passing through the western Algarve, you are on a road trip or on a longer vacation, be sure to visit Monte Clérigo, one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal.

Why is it worth visiting Monte Clérigo? (and it IS, believe me!)
Beach: it is long and wide, everyone will find a place for themselves, with the sound of the waves you can forget about other sunbathers. There are toilets by the beach and in the season lifeguards watch over the water safety. The beach is clean and tidy, with bins at every entrance. Remember to take all the rubbish with you and leave the beach as clean as you found it, Nature will be grateful 🙂.
The houses, built in the 1980s, create a colorful mosaic against the blue sky. There are few of them, which means no tourists and crowds. There is not even one shop here, you have to go shopping in the town Aljezur, but there is an idyllic peace and quiet of a place lost somewhere on the edge of the continent.

Mini natural pools that are formed at low tide when water remains between the rocks. It’s nice to lie inside and relax.
Rock formations in the water, with the low tide you can walk around, admire clams attached to them or small crabs escaping from under your feet.
Cliffs with unforgettable views. Sunsets here are pure magic!

Where to eat in Monte Clérigo
There are three restaurants in Monte Clérigo working during the season. Restaurants: O Sargo is a modern place with excellent cuisine. O Zé is a typical Portuguese place with delicious food and friendly staff. In both restaurants fresh seafood is served (and more!). There is also bar A Rede famous for its delicious breakfasts. More restaurants can be found in the town Aljezur.

Where to sleep in Monte Clérigo
As I mentioned, Monte Clérigo is not a town but a dozen or so colorful beach houses. If you plan to stay in this place, it is better to book your accommodation in advance, because there are very few apartments. An interesting alternative is the town Aljezur, 8 km away. A few accommodation options in the magical Monte Clérigo:

Casa Jasmin – two bedrooms, garden and terrace with barbecue.
