Every autumn, the eyes of the global tech world turn to… Lisbon. This is where Web Summit takes place – one of the largest and most influential technology conferences in the world. If you haven’t heard of it yet, it’s time to catch up!
What exactly is Web Summit?
Web Summit is a global gathering of technology industry leaders, startups, investors, and journalists from around the world. The event brings together discussions about the future of the internet, innovation, AI, sustainability, cybersecurity – and everything that shapes how we live and work in the digital age.
From a small conference in Dublin (the first edition was held in 2009), Web Summit has grown into an event awaited by thousands of companies and tens of thousands of participants from over 150 countries.
🇵🇹 Why Portugal?
In 2016, the organizers made a groundbreaking decision: Web Summit was moving from Ireland to Portugal. Why? Lisbon offered everything a growing event could need:
✔ modern infrastructure,
✔ excellent transport connections (both international and local),
✔ attractive conditions for companies and startups,
✔ strong support from the Portuguese government,
✔ and of course… sunshine, the sea, and a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
Since then, Portugal has become one of Europe’s major technology hubs, and Lisbon itself attracts innovators and investors all year round.
Who can you meet at Web Summit?
This isn’t your typical conference. Here you can listen to the head of Google, run into someone from TikTok, exchange business cards with a Silicon Valley investor, and then… grab a coffee with the creator of an app that might go viral tomorrow.
Speakers at Web Summit have included representatives from Apple, Meta (Facebook), Microsoft, Amazon, Spotify, Airbnb, and tens of thousands of startups from all over the world.
It’s also a space for NGOs, scientists, politicians, and creators who are changing the world not only through technology.
Why should you care?
Web Summit isn’t just a conference – it’s a barometer of the future. The topics discussed in Lisbon in November often become reality in the months that follow.
For Portugal, it’s a tremendous distinction – and an opportunity to show that it’s not only a land of beautiful beaches, but also a modern, tech-forward part of Europe.
📅 This year, Web Summit will take place from November 11–14, 2025, at Altice Arena and FIL in Lisbon.
Don’t miss it – even if you don’t have a ticket, the atmosphere spreads throughout the entire city.
