Portugalskie rozmówki – Portuguese, Level: local

[🇬🇧 EN BELOW]

Rano w drodze do biura zerkam na whatsapp i na grupę kolegów z pracy:

-Bom dia!

Nowy kolokwializm do mojego słownika.

So you speak Portuguese well and you want to feel like a local?

Today I have for you an interesting expression and it’s a colloquialism.

I was on my way to the office and reading whatsapp messages from workmates:

-Bom dia! Vou chegar mais tarde hoje! – texts one colleague.

– texts another.

-Tudo na gazeta! 😂laughs third one.

And I’m wondering: gazeta? Like a gazette or what?

🇬🇧 meaning:

1. To skive off something, to avoid going to school.

(Inês was skiving off today and didn’t come to school.)

2. Not willing to work, be lazy.

(João said he was ill but I knew he was skiving off. )

Don’t forget that it’s informal language! So when your boss asks where is your colleague it’s better to avoid using this one 😜.
